Title

Golf ball Catapult

Problem Scenario

Broad Question

Whats the best angle for the blocker the for the ball to go the farthest.

Specific Question

does the angle of the blocker affect the distance of the ball, also does the angle of the blocker affect how far
it will go.

Hypothesis

The blocker in the middle will go the farthest because it wont go to high and it wont go straight

Variables

Independent Variable:

The angle of the catapult

Dependent Variable:

Distance of ball

Variables That Need To Be Controlled:

weight of ball
size of ball
type of ball angle of blocker speed of release
Angle of blocker

Vocabulary List That Needs Explanation

General Plan

Building catapult then testing witch angle makes the ball go the farthest and measuring it in meters.

Detailed Procedure

  • Get half inch PVC pipes and fittings.
  • Cut them to what ever the size if your base will be, and what you wont the high to be.
  • Get two long springs and drill two holes on the opposite side of the catapult.
  • Make a holder For the golf balls with random PVC part and fittings.

Data Analysis

Conclusion

My hypothesis was wrong the ball went the farthest at the angle i thought was going to be the least. There needs to be further studies on this because when i started to test the PVC started to pop loose from its socket.

Discussion

Benefit to Community and/or Science

The people will know the best angle for future catapult experiments.

Abstract

I was testing what was the best angle for a blocker on the catapult. While i was researching all the catapult pictures i saw had a blocker at 90 degrees. Once i did my experiment i found out that my hypothesis was wrong, "The blocker in the middle will go the farthest because it wont go to high and it wont go straight." when i was all well and done the data showed that 90 degrees was the best angle.
